Gordon's Garden

We're delighted to tell you about a new area we have created at the back of the Community Garden in a small allotment formerly tended by Gordon.   The plot had become very overgrown with brambles and weeds after Gordon was no longer able to look after it and we were given permission by Erewash Borough Council to clear and redevelop the site.
Our team of volunteers cleared the land over several weeks and planted five fruit trees donated by the Council and we're now looking forward to our first harvest and for garden users and allotment holders to enjoy the space.
Clearing the site meant getting rid of a couple of sheds in very poor condition and we were very grateful to be donated a new one by another allotment holder.  We also disposed of a number of metal barriers and other fencing, via Freecycle, which had previously been used to enclose the area.
Foundation Derbyshire funding has enabled us to source and upcycle benches from The Lanes School at Chilwell which in turn will help to fund their outdoor learning project.

Improving our wildlife area

We've been busy again, this time improving our wildlife area.

Our local Scout Group cleared the weeds from the paths, Tom and Helena put down new bark,

purchased with funding from Foundation Derbyshire,

we've planted some bee friendly plants and made a new bird feeding station.

Building new raised beds

In autumn 2025 we were awarded funding from Foundation Derbyshire to create new raised beds for the garden and to buy a number of  new tools.  The beds are now built and we're just waiting to have the top soil delivered ready for our spring vegetable planting.  The tools have been well used and much appreciated by our volunteers.
